FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions
Play therapy can help children make sense of difficult life experiences or situations, and explore feelings that may be having a detrimental effect on their emotional wellbeing and behaviour. By providing the therapeutic space each week in which to express, a child can begin to find their own way to process and heal.
Just be honest… explain to them that you are noticing they are finding things a bit tricky, or having tough days and that they are going to meet a Play Therapist who is someone that can help with their confusing, difficult or ‘muddly’ feelings.
The content of play therapy sessions is always kept confidential between the child and the therapist, and this is extremely important to the child’s therapeutic process. A parent/carer will be asked, however, to attend the first few minutes of the child’s introductory session where therapeutic confidentiality and boundaries will be explained. Don’t panic though… regular parent/carer reviews will take place in which aspects such as broader themes of play, engagement in sessions and therapeutic progress will be shared.
To start with, there is a minimum requirement of 12 sessions. A review will then be held after 6 sessions to discuss the child’s progress and next steps. Many children require more than 12 sessions, but this will always be discussed with parents/carers.
